Gold Medal Award 2026
Purpose of the Award
The Academy of Medical Sciences of Nigeria is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the Gold Medal Award 2026, the Academy’s highest distinction recognizing outstanding excellence, leadership, and transformative contributions in the medical sciences and related disciplines.
The Gold Medal Award is conferred upon an individual who has made exceptional and enduring contributions to the medical sciences, demonstrated leadership of the highest standard, and achieved measurable impact at national and/or international levels. The Award aims to:
- Recognize excellence and distinguished achievement in medical sciences.
- Promote innovation, research advancement, and clinical impact.
- Encourage leadership, mentorship, and institutional development.
- Enhance the visibility and prestige of the Academy and the profession.
Eligibility
Eligible candidates must:
- Not be an Academy Fellow at the time of application.
- Be individuals of recognized professional standing and integrity.
- Have demonstrated sustained excellence and impactful contributions in the medical sciences or related health disciplines.
- Possess a record of national and/or international recognition.
- Have made contributions that significantly advance healthcare, medical research, policy, education, or innovation.
- Have a Google Scholar citation of more than 1500, H-Index of more than 25 and i10-index of more than 75.
Nomination Routes
Candidates may be nominated through any of the following pathways:
- Self-Nomination
- Peer Nomination
Required Nomination Documents
Each nomination must include:
- Completed Nomination Form.
- Abridged Curriculum Vitae (3 pages maximum).
- Electronic copies of 10 best Publications.
- Statement of Contribution and Impact (maximum word limit of 500 words one page on font size 12, single spacing).
- Supporting Evidence of Achievements (where applicable).
- Letters of support (maximum of 3) from experts in fields relevant to the nominee.
Incomplete and late submissions will not be considered
Timeline
- Call for Nominations: 31st March 2026
- Submission Deadline: 31st May 2026
- Assessment Period: June 2026
- Final Decision & Ratification: Following Council Review
Announcement of Awardee
The winner of the award will be announced at the annual convocation ceremony of the Academy in October 2026.
